Years ago, before IMDb made this project obsolete, I started compiling an encyclopedia of European horror films. Now that schlock sites are a dime a dozen, it’s hard to believe there was a time when this kind of info was hard to come by (not to mention the films). I never deleted my write-ups, which always said something positive, however poor the production. No film is more recent than the year 2000 (maybe that’s a project for another day) and I won’t conceal my bias towards the movies of the late 60s and early 70s.
I’ll post a capsule from this file periodically, because — however great Asian horror has become, and however fantastic early Carpenter films continue to be — Euro-horror has a special place in my heart. I think it’s the way it handles the frame.
Update: Validation! A Special Way of Being Afraid serves up kind words.
